To say that the expectations are high for Neverwinter Nights 2 would be a massive understatement. Not only is it the sequel to one of the best role-playing games ever to bear the Dungeons & Dragons license, but it’s also been developed by some of the creative talent behind such other revered role-playing games as Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale. The good news is that Neverwinter Nights 2 lives up to its pedigree by delivering a captivating story full of exciting twists and characters who you’ll grow attached to out of fondness or, perhaps even better, complete loathing. It’s not without a few frustrating technical shortcomings, but overall Neverwinter Nights 2 is a great role-playing adventure that just about anyone can enjoy.

I read an article fairly recently that it took Bioware a large team and 5 years to create NWN. I don't know how much hope there is for a smaller team to actually make a true successor, but here's to hoping.:D Found it: At its peak, the team numbered more than 75 people — with 22 programmers working on aspects as diverse as the game client, independent servers, the Dungeon Master client, and the world creation tools (the BioWare Aurora Neverwinter Toolset). Not only did the final game feature a large number of programmed features, but we also had hundreds of monsters, thousands of custom scripts, and a substantial single- or multiplayer campaign (featuring 60 to 100 hours of gameplay). Coordination of such a large team presented us with a number of unique management challenges, and in retrospect we learned a number of lessons regarding managing huge projects, many of which are described in this article. Because Bioware is full of hacks. Originally posted by:I doubt they will ever make Neverwinter Nights 3, however this could very well be the closest thing we get to that in a long time.

It's made by the director of Dragon Age: Origins, and that was pretty much a Neverwinter Nights Clone Probably will be the closest thing, but DA:O was nothing like NWN. Different style of RPG altogether (BG clone).

Maybe not necesarily NWN itself, but NWN2 and DA:O are pretty similar, except for the rules themselves, Dragon Age doesn't have D&D rules. Originally posted by:You think? Maybe not necesarily NWN itself, but NWN2 and DA:O are pretty similar, except for the rules themselves, Dragon Age doesn't have D&D rules. BG/DA:O- linear, narrative driven one-and-done campaign game with simplistic character and combat systems. NWN 1&2- extremely deep and versatile character and combat systems with player run persistent worlds ranging from hardcore roleplay to hack n' slash (and any variety of hybrids between), thousands of singleplayer community made modules, mini-campaigns or said persistent worlds with DM client.

Not even remotely similar. Originally posted by:You think? Maybe not necesarily NWN itself, but NWN2 and DA:O are pretty similar, except for the rules themselves, Dragon Age doesn't have D&D rules. Not even remotely similar. What a NWN fanboy. I give NWN the community made content, else this game is just inferior to BG.

How can you even say, that the combat system in NWN is versatile and deep. Alone the fact, that you have no group, takes a huge chunk of complexity and deepness out of it. Without the community content, NWN would've been one of the most dissapointing roleplay experiences to date. And the reason why many people compare DA:O with NWN 2, is the generic plot both share: A very powerfull enemy walks onto the stage and can only be stopped by the protagonist because he has a shard/is one of the last warden. The hero then walks through the land to built an army and in the end confront the big evil. Add a little bit intrigue here and there and you are ready to go. Btw Mass Effect follows the same pattern.
